After its glamorous debut in 2008, Omaha Fashion Week returned in 2009 promising a bigger and better experience. The 2nd year brought together 25 designers (double the previous year), 40 hair stylists and makeup artists, 200 models and volunteers, and a crowd of over 3000! Designer Juantiesha Christian has fond memories of her experience that first year, “My first model walked on the runway and I just felt like I was at New York Fashion Week. I walked back to my seat and a group of people were clapping for me. I had never really experienced that before. It was so cool!”
"Every Friday afternoon I gather up an armful or two of useful doodads and random tidbits and take my happy butt to a little glass front space at 33rd and Leavenworth. There is a brightly painted concrete planter in the front that stands out against the concrete, brick, and glass of the block and every time I pass it I think I need to make one for myself, but inevitably forget as soon as I get home. Sometimes you can hear a boxing class next door, see a few friendly strangers smoking outside of the VFW across the street, or see any number of neighborhood folks waiting at the bus stop next to the planter." In 2008, there were a number of fashion designers in Omaha, putting on their own small shows in various venues across town. Enter Nick Hudson and Nomad Lounge with a reputation for some of the best nightlife events Omaha had to offer. Nick, whose family has a long legacy in fashion (stemming from his grandfather buying silk parachutes and turning them into garments following WWII) saw an opportunity to bring local designers together. And so, Omaha Fashion Week was born! Plus, designer highlight: Amy Quinn

Already reminiscing on Omaha Fashion Week? Us too! As you may know, we had an amazing music director this season, Kethro of Make Believe Recordings. With the help from each designer's vision and creativity, Kethro used his talent to create and mix phenomenal tracks that you might remember hearing during runway shows.
The most anticipated fashion event in the Midwest concluded Saturday night after a weeklong celebration of fashion. Omaha Fashion Week guests were able to get the first glance at the latest collections of the most talented designers in the area. Over 30 collections walked down the runway this past week.
The final runway show before we dive into the VIP Finale was held last night. Omaha Fashion Week’s last designer showcase, themed “Back to Nature” blew the audience away. Flora, fauna and desert themes were seen with these collections. In addition, designers brought impeccable evening wear, leather harnesses, unisex looks, and 1970s inspired hair to the runway. It was a mixed bag exploring all things nature…human and otherwise.
If you’ve been coming to the shows this week, you’ve probably noticed some crazy, creative and beautiful make up and hair on the runway. It takes many, many volunteers from the best salons in the metro to make this happen. Before show time, these volunteers are working morning and day to get models runway ready for their big moment. We want to give a big thank you to these amazing people who make this possible!
The Midwest’s most anticipated fashion event continued with last night’s showcase, Designer Showcase IV: Lucid Dreams. From beautiful flowing gowns to free-spirited boho, this night was all about dreams, light and airy vs. dark and brooding. Designers expressed the journey of emerging from depression, created visual representations of yin and yang, and sent dresses down the runway with ethereal, dream-like qualities.
