A little bit of rain and a total eclipse didn’t stop the party at Omaha Design Center last night during the opening night of Omaha Fashion Week presented by SAC Federal Credit Union. Flashing lights and flashy cars lit up the night as eight Emerging Designers prepared for the show. Teen heartthrob Dylan Gardner from California serenaded patrons as they shopped, received on-site manicures, and had a wine tasting before the show even began.
The runway show was bookmarked by Project Runway Junior designers, Molly Elizabeth Designs by Molly Obrien and Ysabel Hilado. Emerging Designers competed for $500 prize which will be announce Monday August 28th via Omaha Fashion Week social media.
The night was all about inspiration and the various ways it comes to our designers. Augusta Overy wowed the crowd with a of handmade fabrics speaking to the importance of ocean sustainability. Next, Single Handedly Liz by Liz Scarpino shows a different take on sustainability by hand-dying all of her fabrics with natural materials such as flower petals and yellow onion roots with amazing results! Noelle Designs takes the audience for a turn with her glamourous dark collection reminiscient of the mental struggle creatives experience during their process. Next, Victoria Raile presents a feminine rocker collection featuring hand cut leather flowers. AFIELDA by Elda Doamekpo closes the first half with an incredible collection of gowns inspired by the Oshun, an African goddess.
In the second half Zaftig Kitty by Korrinne Zimmerman presents Playful Professional full of bright colors and fun accessories made to fit a range of sizes. Tirzah Beam’s inspiration came from her roots, drawing from family ties to create a line full of life. Austin Do presents Royal Roses, a samurai inspired streetwear collection for men. Makenzie Lesiak presents Self Destruction highlighting the effects of global warming.
