Earlier this month, the University of Nebraska-Lincoln announced the potential closure of several academic departments across the university, including the Department of Textiles, Merchandising and Fashion Design [TMFD].

Omaha Fashion Week and TMFD have been long-time collaborators in providing unique, professional opportunities for students to demonstrate their talents in fashion design. As such, Omaha Fashion Week is committed to voicing its opposition to the closure of the department. We encourage all of our followers and fans to join us in this effort by doing four things:

  1. Sign the petition: Tell Chancellor Green to Keep TMFD at UNL

  2. Write a letter to the Academic Planning Committee by Sept. 30 explaining why the department is important to you. Email to apc@unl.edu and karen.griffin@unl.edu.

  3. Send that same letter to your state representatives.

  4. Attend the hearing Oct. 14 at 3 p.m. on Zoom. Email mbieber2@unl.edu for a link.

Our understanding is that there will be at least one hearing in October, with an announcement about the fate of the department being made in November. The time to make some noise about this is NOW. Want more details on how to help? Download this handy “Ways to Help TMFD Guide”.
