Crystal Brakhage hits the Omaha Fashion Week runway for the first time Saturday February 25th.
Crystal's current collection titled Power Frenzy draws inspiration from Yves Saint Laurent and her own image of a strong woman.
“I really like making women feel powerful and confident, like they can take over the world,” Crystal says.
She designs for the young professional who likes to stand out. Incorporating Mondrian inspired prints, plastic detailing and pattern mixing trends, her current daywear collection is a blend of professional wear and street inspirations.
The 23-year-old college student began sewing at the age of eight with her mother and grandmother in a small Nebraska town with a population of 106. It wasn’t until 2010, she says, after being selected to be featured in UNL’s Robert Hillestad Textiles Gallery that she knew designing was the career path for her. The young designer is excited to grow and learn as a fashion designer and hopes that showing at Omaha Fashion Week will give her a boost to breaking into the fashion industry. Crystal hopes to eventually establish her line as a recognized lifestyle brand. “Ultimately, I would like to make women’s clothing that sets them apart,” she says. “People will say ’I know that is a Crystal Brakhage design’.”
