In partnership with OutNebraska, a custom-designed graphic tee was created to represent support and growth for the LGBTQ+ community. OutNebraska has been working for over ten years to improve the lives of LGBTQ+ people by advocating, celebrating, and educating. Each aspect of this graphic design draws from culturally significant symbols that celebrate the LGBTQ+ community. Explore the detailed meanings behind the design as we approach Pride Month.

Red roses traditionally symbolize passionate romantic love, but they have a mournful meaning too as a flower often laid on graves. Roses therefore are sometimes referenced for the trans community, as trans people are murdered at alarming rates. Roses are used as a symbol to honor trans people who are alive, a concept explored in photography exhibit “The Rose Project”.
The red stripe in the Pride flag symbolizes life. The red rose in this design is a way of honoring the trans community and celebrating beauty and life.
