Hey all! It's OFW Producer, Brook, here. Since last August, we've had our heads down working on a very special project...the Omaha Design Center. Nick and I starting talking about the need for a permanent home for Omaha Fashion Week after our August 2014 season. And then we started talking to our community partners about this need. A year later, with the support of many partners our dream is becoming a reality at 1502 Cuming Street in North Downtown Omaha!
The Omaha Design Center is a 30,000 square foot event facility that is being designed as a luxurious, blank slate space for events. This is exactly the type of space we have needed for Omaha Fashion Week...something that is big enough to accommodate our crowd (we had outgrown many venues and had resorted to building huge, air conditioned tents) and flexible enough to accommodate the creative vision of the many talented event planners we have run across in our almost nine years of doing fashion shows. I like to think of it as a theater in which the audience is the star of the show! You can learn more about it at www.omahadesigncenter.com. When it's not being used for OFW shows, it can be rented for events and weddings.
Hammers will start swinging on January 1 and the space will be ready for our March 2016 season. We are so beyond excited to welcome the fashion community into our new home! It will include an exhibition space for runway shows, a dedicated reception area and art gallery and a designer showroom. For the first time ever, OFW designers will have a permanent place to sell their work, have fittings and appointments with clients and even host trunk shows.
