Omaha Fashion Week kicked off this season last night with the first designer showcase. Guests arrived for the Pretty in Patina Pre-Party prior to show time to shop retailers, enjoy the complimentary champagne fountain, strut the Borsheims Red Carpet, and indulge in drinks and hors d’oeuvres. In addition, the house photographers, Heather and Jameson Hooton, presented a special photo gallery. Editorial photos from the latest edition of Omaha FASHION Magazine were brought to life throughout the Omaha Design Center.
On the runway, designers Aubrey Sookram, Orchid Richards, Frank Fu, Abbey Parodi, Sydney Moore, and Karissa Goosic debuted their latest collections. New this year, OFW nixed using categories to organize the week. Instead, every showcase employs a theme, last night being “Surface Design.” Playful, textural elements were the hallmark of the collections by these designers. The audience viewed origami-inspired shapes, hand painted fabrics, tie-dye and laser cutting techniques.
Aubrey Sookram: Aubrey’s children’s wear collection used fall hues and designs. Suitable for everyday wear, as well as the fall and winter holidays.
Orchid Richards: Orchid showed a street wear collection combining both futuristic and feminine features. The inspiration for this line came from architecture, movement, and geometric shapes.
Frank Fu: Frank’s collection incorporated a mixture of unconventional materials, including paper and acrylic. Clean lines and sharp edges conveyed a futuristic look.
Abbey Parodi: Abbey brought an evening wear collection featuring dark hues of purple and black. The collection was based on the women of Greek tragedies.
Sydney Moore: Sydney showed a dreamy and whimsical collection featuring tie-dyed fabric. Inspired by the oceans colors after a storm.
Karissa Goosic: Karissa debuted a playful, quirky, and sporty street wear collection. The line featured bold fabrics, inspired by Keith Haring.
