We are just one week away from our Avant Garde and Swimwear Showcase! We are very excited to be bringing extremely talented designers to the runway next Tuesday. Join us at the Fashion Tent in The Yard in downtown Omaha to see the work of these designers:
Dan Richters is an Omaha native who will be showcasing an avant garde collection. Dan’s inspiration for this collection comes from the ocean and ocean animals. He mentions being “fascinated with the textures and shapes of benthic plantlife, as well as scales and spikes that cover animals such as fish and starfish.” Dan began focusing on fashion in 2009, the same year he created his first collection for Omaha Fashion Week. He has been concentrating on his current collection for five months, what he mentions as one of his major accomplishments in his fashion career.
Jennifer is an Omaha based fashion designer who duos as a theatre artist. She has her MFA in theatrical design from the University of Georgia. Currently she designs and makes performance garments for local Drag queens. Her current collection is inspired by a fairy tale titled "12 Dancing Princesses." She says, “I would love if the collection could be worn partially or entirely by men in drag.”
Brave Nouvelle- Ellene McClay
After moving around extensively while growing up, Ellene McClay finally resided in Omaha for college and has been here for 20 years. She began sewing when she was just 6 years old. Ellene’s collection comes from a process of using bleach and other chemicals to remove color from denim fabric. She used shapes and silhouettes inspired by Marie Antoinette and the Rococo period, blended with fashion of the 1980’s.
Judy Bales is a multi-disciplinary artist who focuses on art for the body, mixed-media installation and public art. She utilizes found, recycled and /or repurposed materials in an ongoing effort to reveal beauty in unlikely places. Previously, Sabrina’s designs have been featured in Wedding Essentials Magazine, the Omaha World Herald, and The Morning Blend. She has received her Masters in Textile and Clothing Design.
