Orchid Richards, a native New Yorker and recent graduate from the University of Nebraska Lincoln, will be debuting her latest collection at OFW this season. She holds a degree in Textile and Fashion Design and has gained valuable experience with multiple internships in the industry. Orchid interned with a patternmaker in New York City and at a local baby clothes company in Lincoln.
The ready to wear collection she is showing at OFW is inspired by kites and their movement. “My collection incorporates the geometry of kites, the tails in the fringe and the movement of them through the sky and in the wind. The silhouettes within the collection mimic the geometric shapes and structure of kites through segmenting and cut outs,” she explains.
In the future, Orchid will continue creating lines and hopes to own and design her own label. “I plan to continue learning new techniques and improve on techniques that I have acquired in school,” she says.
