Less than ONE WEEK until Omaha Fashion Week kicks off another exciting season of fashion and glamour February 23rd-29th, and we’re thrilled to share more about our amazing lineup of designers!

Lauren Glowacki Designs tells the story of the sky during a sunset with a dynamic color story and unexpected texture in streetwear styles!

How did you get into fashion? Share a little about your background.

I got into fashion because I love making clothes that are completely unique. I originally started by making small alterations to garments that I already owned to make them one-of-a-kind. Then I wanted to make pieces that were fully my own, pieces that no one else had, so I graduated into making my own clothes from start to finish. I borrowed a friend’s sewing machine, watched a lot of YouTube tutorials, and slowly taught myself how to sew original pieces.

Describe your brand and the feeling you want it to convey. How was your brand concept born?

My brand is for any woman wanting to feel confident in who she is, whoever that may be. I create for many customers ranging from super feminine chic to more relaxed street-style. When a customer wears my designs I want them to feel their most beautiful, their most powerful, and like their most true to self. My brand concept was born when I kept hearing my friends say, “Oh I love that, but I could never pull it off.” That sounded so ridiculous to me. If you like it, wear it! That’s really the message I am trying to send with my brand. I want people to take risks with what they wear and not worry about what anyone else will think, only about how good they feel in the outfit.

What are your personal goals, or goals for your brand?

The main goal of my brand is to help women feel confident and powerful. I want to show others they can be unapologetically themselves in anything they want to wear. My brand is for those looking to feel confident, bold, and trend-setting. A goal for myself is to continue growing and learning as a designer every day. I want to create pieces that inspire me and others.

Describe your favorite project(s) that you have worked on.

My favorite project I’ve worked on so far was a blazer dress for my last collection. It was made from a very comfortable, black stretch material. The blazer dress was sleek, sophisticated, and made the model look powerful. My favorite part was that the garment featured long chains of crystals, which were sewn on in diamond patterns and then the loose ends dangled and swung when she walked. It had a great runway effect!

Describe the collection you are creating.

For my spring collection, I plan on telling the story of a sunset. I envision sitting on a picnic blanket watching the sky change from pale blues, to bright, fiery oranges, reds, and pinks to finally the blackness of night. My collection begins with a set symbolizing bright, fluffy clouds and a clear blue sky. There will be a light and airy feel during the first half. Towards the middle, there will be a shift as the sky starts to explode with the oranges and pinks found in a burning sunset. Street-wear inspired skirts and dresses will be elegant with a little edge. Towards the end of the collection, the colors will start to be overtaken by the night. There will be embroidered star elements on the garments nearing the end.

Where did you find inspiration for your new collection?

I drew inspiration from the quote, “Tell me the story about how the sun loved the moon so much, he died every night to let her breathe.” From that quote, I started to think about the movement of a sunset. I love how the sky turns from soft hues of blue and white to pink and fiery reds and oranges. As the fire starts to fade, the sky is overtaken by deep purple, navy blue, and then darkness. Even after the sky has gone black, the stars shine bright. Pulling from nature has always been inspiring to me, so I wanted to take a day to night collection and make it more literal.

What are the signature styles or silhouettes of your collection?

The signature style of my collection is definitely full of very feminine silhouettes and outfits. All of my garments are created to accent the female body. Many of the outfits feature a high waisted pant or skirt, a structured top with boning, or a dress that falls along the curves of the body. The style I’m going for is romantic and playful.

Describe the specific customer you are designing for.

This collection is for the woman who wants to feel playful, romantic, powerful, and edgy. She pulls energy from the sun, but still thrives during the nighttime. She knows who she is, and does not mind taking risks with her outfits, whether it is an unexpected twist that turns heads or a structural piece that people are not used to seeing. My customer is strong and willing to be the trendsetter. She knows what she wants and she’ll stop at nothing to get it.

How do you balance creativity/innovation with consistency in your work?

I balance creativity and innovation with consistency in my work by always carrying around a little sketchbook. One of my teachers had us start doing this, and I’ve been so grateful ever since. Constantly creating can be draining; always trying to come up with a new idea or pull inspiration from something. By carrying around a sketchbook, I can remember my ideas whenever inspiration strikes. I try to become inspired by everything around me. When something sparks my attention I sketch or write something down to remind myself of what it was. When the time comes to create, I have plenty of ideas to reference from.

What sort of design elements can we expect from you this season? What materials, colors, shapes, or patterns will you be using?

My collection will start off very light and airy. It will flow towards exciting, bright colors with structured lines that give shape to the garments. The colors will give way to the darkness of night, where my collection will show tailored garments featuring hand-painted and embroidered elements. I will be using many shades of blue, white, pink, oranges, reds, dark purple and black. I plan on using faux fur, leathers, chiffon, denim, and many metal/chain accents.
