Austin Do is an emerging designer whose brand is based off his Vietnamese name, Tú, which means luxuriant and beautiful. He designs underground streetwear with a modern and simplistic aesthetic.
How did you get into fashion? Tell me a little about your background.
I got into fashion because I wanted to improve my self-confidence. Clothing gives me an outlet to express emotions and feelings without words.
Describe your brand and the point of view you wish to convey. What category does your brand fall under?
I consider Tú to be a streetwear brand. My style has a dark underground aesthetic that is modern and simplistic.
What are your personal goals or goals for your brand?
I wish to spread my vision with the world one day. I want to walk out onto the streets and see people repping Tú.
Describe your favorite project or projects that you have worked on.
My favorite project was, hands down, my student night collection. I learned so much from trial and error working on that collection. I showed that first collection, “LifeAfterDeath,” at Omaha Fashion Week’s student night in February, 2017. The collection was based on the Angel of Death. I used mainly black and white throughout the collection and for one of my looks I created a sort of reaper cloak using knitted material, which I distressed, giving it a withered look.
Where do you look for inspiration?
Describe some of the specific inspiration for your new collection.
For my upcoming collection,”ROYALROSES,” I’m using the blue rose as inspiration. The blue rose itself is a rarity in nature. It stands for something that is hardly within one's grasp, an object that seems too difficult to be achieved.
What kind of materials do you use and why?
For this collection I’m using a lot of knit fabrics for comfort and satin accents for elegance and aesthetic.
What signature styles or silhouettes do you feature in your line?
I try to properly use space and clean cut shapes to give my brand a very modern and simplistic aesthetic.
