UNL Fails to Follow Policies in Potential Shutdown of Fashion Department

The University of Nebraska-Lincoln made the decision to potentially close the Department of Textiles, Merchandising, and Fashion Design due to budgetary issues caused by the pandemic. On October 14th, the Academic Planning Committee held a virtual hearing to discuss the potential closure. In this hearing, almost 200 participants watched as professors, students, alumni, and community leaders spoke in opposition of the department closure. The hearing, which lasted for over four hours, provoked serious discussions on the university’s failure to follow its guidelines and procedures while making budget cuts.

OFW + Metro Community College = New Fashion Degree

In late 2013 Nick and I were invited by Ellie Archer to a dinner party at Metro Community College's [MCC] Culinary School. At that time, we were like, "Wow.  Imagine if Metro had a fashion program like their culinary program - wouldn't that be cool?" In late April, after many years of meetings with the team at MCC, that crazy idea became reality when an associate's degree in fashion design was approved by the state board of education.
