Omaha Fashion Week’s Spring 2020 season continued last night with the UNL Student Showcase, featuring pieces from UNL's Department of Textiles, Merchandising and Fashion Design (TMFD)! As the doors to Omaha Design Center opened, guests were greeted with music by pre-party entertainment DJ Shor-T. Supporters of UNL designers chatted excitedly about the collections they would see on the Allure Med Spa Runway to Beauty.
In the Village Pointe Aesthetic Surgery | Dreams MedSpa VIP Lounge, attendees mingled and enjoyed Absolut Juice cocktails from the VIP Garden Bar. Excited chatter could be heard by the Dreams MedSpa giveaway table, where hopeful guests entered to win $250 in spa services. Delicious hors d’oeuvres by Save the Date Catering were enjoyed by VIPs, who kept coming back for more.
The Made in Omaha Pop-Up Shop was full of life, as shoppers found their must-haves and made purchases from local shop-owners and makers. Some lucky guests snagged appointments to get their hair styled at the Capitol Style Bar Powered by Aquage before the show.
KETV NewsWatch 7 emcee DaLaun Dillard charmed the audience and introduced the first set of the night, Daywear. Daywear designs in vibrant colors with unexpected elements of pleating, fringe, and asymmetry captivated the crowd. Designers put thought into unique touches in all of the high-quality looks.
In the next set, Semi-Formal Wear, designers took exaggerated silhouettes to the next level. Second place winner of the Mary Mitchell Award, Audrey Foster, amplified the padded hip runway trend in a fun way with her look “Space Stewardess,” and took home a Bernina Serger L450 as her prize. First place winner of the Mary Mitchell Award, Son Nguyen, showed looks full of grandeur, including his winning piece, “Canamortis” showcasing a ruffled shoulder, asymmetrical hemline, and a unique train, and took home a Bernina B435 Sewing Machine as his prize.
House music led the audience into intermission, where they could snap photos on the Omaha Fashion Week Red Carpet and grab an Absolut Juice cocktail. Guests continued to explore the vendors in the Made in Omaha Pop-Up Shop Market and purchased OFW merchandise to remember their experience.
As the audience took their seats, the Formal Wear set began. In Formal Wear, evening gowns and wedding dresses were a sight to behold. Designers’ looks were classic in style with perfected construction, perfect for an elegant event. The Experimental set followed, showcasing the full imagination of UNL designers. Looks were extreme in every sense of the word, breaking fashion boundaries and experimenting with various styles. Third place winner of the Mary Mitchell Award, Heather Stiebel, showcased a sculptural garment flowing with fabric entitled “Warrior,” and took home Tule Sewing Accessories as her prize.
As the final model march showcased each look of the night and the talented designers who crafted them, the audience applauded the young talent in Nebraska!
